The Light in Vietnam: A ONE Story

As the ONE 2021 campaign rolls into it’s final weeks, we are celebrating not only the 30 countries who have engaged in a unified Bible engagement effort, but even more, the stories that are now starting to roll in! One can only marvel and wonder at what God is doing as church leaders in countries around the globe testify to the radical change they are seeing in their own communities! Vietnam is one of those countries.

The primary religion practiced in Vietnam is Buddhism. Between the pressure of a Buddhist society and the oppression of a communist government, Christians face a great deal of persecution and sometimes violence.

Throughout this Lenten season, a faithful pastor in Vietnam has shared story after story of Vietnamese people coming to faith. On a recent global call he shared how the Gospel made its way into drug rehab centers, rural villages and transformed entire families. Despite the reality of persecution and resistance to Christianity, these people willingly submit their lives to the Father.

The ONE campaign, has given us a window to see how Christianity is spreading and taking root in Vietnam. The pastor who has been in contact with the ONE team sent the following updates throughout the campaign (details and images have been omitted to protect identities):

  • Two families accepted Christ after listening to Scripture during the ONE campaign.

  • A pastor visited and shared Scripture at a drug rehab center. After listening to the message, the men in the center prayed together and for one another!

  • A new church building is going up and the builders are listening to the daily Scripture during construction.

  • During the Week 3 of ONE, twenty-five individuals and two new families accepted Jesus!

  • During Week 4, several individuals from the drug rehab center accepted Christ.

  • Many Vietnamese in various rural areas are participating in listening through the Gospels with proclaimers.

  • In one village, 12 individuals came to a Christian Rehabilitation center and their lives were transformed by encountering the Gospels through the ONE initiative. They have expressed happiness in joining with Faith Comes By Hearing and ONE. The pastor of this center also received and now uses a proclaimer.

  • ONE was introduced to a Vietnamese pastor and his wife who care for 130 orphaned children. They are using the resources to intentionally disciple the children in their care.

  • This past Sunday, 18 individuals from one Vietnamese church were baptized.

Praise the Lord for the Light that is spreading in Vietnam!
